A local, Insiders guide to the best wedding venues in Switzerland
Switzerland is a dream destination for weddings, offering a stunning combination of natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and world-class hospitality.
I’m a destination wedding videographer based out of Switzerland. Its been almost 10 years since my family and I moved to Wengen, a tiny traffic-free village nestled in the Jungfrau Region of the Swiss Alps.
My clients often choose to celebrate their weddings in Switzerland – with multi-day events that make the most of this remarkable country. From welcome dinners and pre-wedding activities to unforgettable wedding days and post-wedding celebrations, Switzerland provides the perfect setting for a truly immersive experience.

From this very central location, I travel throughout Switzerland filming proposals, weddings and elopements.
As someone who lives here in the Swiss Alps, I’ve had the privilege of documenting love stories at some of the country’s most extraordinary venues. A few years ago, I wrote a blog that shared my ten reasons to get married in Switzerland, focussing on some amazing venues and locations. I shared some of my top locations.
Since then, I’ve had the honour of capturing even more beautiful weddings, from iconic lakeside hotels to intimate alpine retreats and historic castles.
In this updated guide, I’m excited to share my recent highlights, showcasing the diversity and magic of weddings in Switzerland.
Now, through my years of exploring, I have even more Swiss Alps wedding venues to share with you – situated up mountains, alongside lakes and many more wonderful places.

Lakeside Luxury: The Most Stunning Lake Wedding Venues in Switzerland
For couples seeking grandeur and sophistication, Switzerland’s iconic lakeside hotels provide the perfect setting for luxurious celebrations.
Fairmont Le Montreux Palace, Montreux on Lake Geneva
Michèle and Collin’s wedding was a seamless fusion of American and Swiss traditions, celebrated with elegance and charm. Their festivities began with a pre-wedding boat ride with all their guests to a vineyard for dinner and wine tasting. On the wedding day, the couple had a romantic first look at Château de Chillon, followed by a boat ride on Lake Geneva before heading to the Fairmont Montreux Palace.

The ceremony took place in the gardens overlooking the lake, with the reception and party held in the grand Belle-Époque ballroom. The event was full of Swiss traditions, including yodelling, alphorn players, and games, adding a personal and cultural touch. Later in the night, Michele and Collin took over the DJ decks, creating an unforgettable end to their magical celebration.
Hotel Splendide Royal Lugano, Lake Lugano
Tara and Ashvin brought their guests from the United States to Switzerland for their destination wedding at the Hotel Splendide Royal, Lugano on the shores of Lake Lugano. The celebrations began with a pre-wedding boat cruise the lake, allowing guests to take in the stunning scenery and visit the charming nearby villages of Morcote and Gandria.
The wedding day was held at the hotel. The venue’s Italian-inspired architecture and breathtaking lake views created a refined and elegant setting. The mix of local culture and the couple’s personal touches made this celebration both memorable and unique.

Grandhotel Giessbach on Lake Brienz
Devon and Sven’s wedding at the Grandhotel Giessbach was a beautiful blend of Swiss tradition and American warmth. With Devon hailing from the United States and Sven from Switzerland, the couple chose this historic venue for its unique charm and spectacular natural surroundings.
Nestled by the iconic Giessbach Falls and overlooking the turquoise waters of Lake Brienz, the Grandhotel provided an unforgettable setting. The historic architecture and serene gardens created a romantic atmosphere, perfectly complementing the intimate celebration with their closest family and friends. The day reflected the couple’s love for nature, history, and the beauty of Switzerland.
Villa Emden, Isola di Brissago
‘Out of this world’ would be one way I would describe this next Swiss wedding location – Villa Emden on the idyllic Isola di Brissago makes the most perfect backdrop for an exquisite destination wedding.
The Brissago Islands are two islands in the Swiss part of Lake Maggiore. What makes Villa Emden the hidden dream of many Italian and international couples is its fairy-tale, almost mysterious aura.
Watch this space, I am very excited to be filming a wedding here in summer 2025.
Bürgenstock Resort on Lake Lucerne
Perched high above Lake Lucerne, the Bürgenstock Resort offers panoramic views and modern luxury, making it an exceptional choice for couples seeking a unique and private alpine wedding experience. With its contemporary architecture and breathtaking scenery, this resort provides a seamless blend of sophistication and natural beauty, ensuring every moment feels extraordinary.
The cuisine is simply ‘to die for’ and the resort’s wedding planners are a dcream to work with. What I really love about this venue is the fact that there’s so many options for your wedding here, from small intimate spaces and restaurants, which you can book for exclusive use, to fabulous ballrooms.
You will be blown away before you even arrive; enchanted by the half- hour journey aboard the sleek MS Bürgenstock boat, followed by a vertiginous ride up to the cliff- tip resort on the venue’s exclusive funicular.

Iconic Swiss Mountain Wedding Hotels & Venues: Alpine Elegance at Its Finest
Suvretta House, St. Moritz
Olivia and Charles celebrated their wedding during the golden hues of autumn in the Engadin Valley. The groom, Charles, specifically chose a September wedding to capture the beauty of the changing season, when the valley’s famous larch trees turn vibrant shades of orange and gold, creating a stunning natural backdrop.

The couple exchanged vows at the historic San Gian Church, a venue rich in tradition and charm. Following the ceremony, they hosted their reception at the luxurious Suvretta House, an iconic alpine retreat. With its breathtaking views of the Engadin Valley and a perfect blend of grandeur and intimacy, Suvretta House offered an unforgettable setting for their celebration. The golden autumn tones framed every moment, making their day as unique and magical as the landscape itself.
The Alpina Gstaad, Gstaad
Shweta and Rahul’s Indian wedding beautifully blended vibrant traditions with the stunning alpine scenery of Gstaad. The day before the wedding, we captured a breathtaking photo and film shoot at Glacier 3000, where the couple stood on the iconic bridge surrounded by spectacular views, which is where this film begins.
On the wedding day, guests travelled via the Eggli Gondola to the mountain-top ceremony, where the dramatic landscape provided the perfect setting for their traditional celebration. The combination of Indian culture and the serene Swiss Alps made this wedding truly extraordinary.

Badrutts Palace, St Moritz
When it comes to luxury and high-end Swiss destination wddings, you need not look any. further than The Badrutts Palace in St Moritz. It’s spellbinding. This luxury hotel is in the centre of the glitziest of Swiss Alpine resorts and overlooks Lake St Moritz, surround by the most beautiful nature.

In 2022 I was honoured to film the RSVP Symposium (formerly Bridelux) in St Moritz. The Gala Evening was held at the Badrutt’s Palace.
Many of the weddings I film are so exclusive that I cannot share the details, torespect the privacy of the couples. Two venues that perfectly embody the elegance and discretion my clients seek are the Bürgenstock Resort and the Grand Hotel Kroenenhof in Pontresina.
The Huus Gstaad, Gstaad
Chantal and Richard’s winter wedding at The Huus Gstaad was nothing short of magical. Overnight snowfall transformed the landscape into a winter wonderland, creating a breathtaking backdrop for their special day. Nestled in the heart of the Swiss Alps, The Huus Gstaad provided the perfect combination of cosy alpine charm and refined elegance.

The couple embraced the season, celebrating with an intimate group of close family and friends. The venue’s warm interiors and panoramic views of the snow-dusted peaks made every moment feel serene and romantic. The day was a true reflection of the beauty and tranquillity that winter weddings in the Alps can offer.
Huss provides the prefect backdrop to the Swiss Alpine wedding you’ve been dreaming of during the winter or the summer season. It’s your choice whether you’d like to exchange your vows amid the green of rolling hills or among soft white blankets of snow.
The Waldhaus, Sils Maria
Just 10km from the bustling resort of St Moritz, in an unspoiled alpine village nestled on a hill in the forest high above Lake Sils, is the Hotel Waldhaus.
If you’re looking for an intimate wedding venue, then the Waldhaus in Sils Maria might be the perfect place for you. This gorgeous family-run hotel is in the Engadine region of Switzerland. The grand hotel was opened in 1908 and has remained in the same family for five generations and is steeped in character and warmth.
It sits above peaceful Sils Maria like a fairy tale castle, surrounded by gorgeous views of gleaming lakes and impressive mountains.I am the recommended videographer for both these amazing venues but if you’re looking at a more adventurous location, how about the Romantik Hotel Muottas Muragl – only reached by funicular… or foot!
That is definitely on my bucket list.

Grand Hotel Kronenhof, Pontresina
Nestled in the Engadine Valley, the Grand Hotel Kronenhof is a masterpiece of 19th-century architecture, offering timeless grandeur and exclusivity. This historic hotel is renowned for its refined service, stunning alpine views, and intimate atmosphere, making it ideal for couples who value luxury and privacy.
These venues represent the pinnacle of Swiss elegance, offering not only spectacular settings but also the privacy and exclusivity that my clients appreciate. Filming at these iconic locations is always an honour, capturing moments that reflect the sophistication and beauty of the surroundings.
Swiss Castle Wedding Venues: A Fairytale Setting by the Water
Switzerland’s lakeside castles bring together romance, tradition, and breathtaking views, offering a fairytale setting for weddings.
Remember, Switzerland is made up of no less than four linguistic regions… Italian, French, German and Romantsche.
A castle in the German region is called a Schloss, in the French part a Chateau and it’s referred to as a Castillo in some parts of the Italian areas. The look and feel of these can be very different depending on where you are in Switzerland.
Ian and Brandon’s lakeside wedding at Schloss Oberhofen remains one of my favourites and was featured in my previous blog on Swiss wedding venues. It was a celebration of love, intimacy, and luxury, set in one of Switzerland’s most romantic locations.
The festivities began with a private excursion to Jungfraujoch, “The Top of Europe,” where the couple shared an unforgettable experience with close family and friends the day before the wedding. On the big day, Ian and Brandon had a heartfelt First Look at the exclusive Hotel Schweizerhof Bern & Spa before all the guests travelled to Lake Thun. A picturesque boat ride brought everyone to Schloss Oberhofen, where the ceremony was held in the castle’s enchanting gardens, framed by breathtaking lake and mountain views.
Their cinematic boat arrival and the serene, intimate atmosphere of the castle made this wedding truly magical. It was a perfect blend of personal touches, stunning scenery, and the timeless elegance that defines Schloss Oberhofen.

In case you’re wondering, the couples ‘First Look’ was held at the Schweizerhof Hotel & Spa in Bern … you can read more about this lower down in the blog.
Another castle I love is the fairytale venue, Chateau de Chillon, a medieval island fortress located on Lake Geneva between Montreux and Villeneuve – It’s where Collin and Michelle, who’s wedding at the Fairmont Montreux Palace I shared earlier, had their first Look.

There is also the magical Morcote Castle in the southernmost region of Switzerland – originally built to guard and control commerce on Lake Lugano.
If you’re looking for something really old then there’s Schloss Tarasp in the Engadine or Romantsche region. The best way to arrange a wedding here would be to contact Switzerland Tourism.
Schloss Schadau, Lake Thun
Melanie and Marc’s intimate wedding at Schloss Shadau was a beautiful celebration of romance and natural beauty. With a Swiss groom and an American bride, the day reflected their shared love of nature and connection to Switzerland. Situated on the tranquil shores of Lake Thun, this picturesque castle provided a serene and romantic setting, surrounded by elegant gardens and breathtaking alpine views.

The couple chose Schloss Schadau for its charm and exclusivity, creating a warm and personal atmosphere for their closest family and friends. The intimate scale of the day perfectly complemented the castle’s timeless elegance, making it a truly unforgettable experience.
Grand & Luxury Swiss City Hotels: Opulence in Switzerland’s Most Prestigious Cities
Victoria Jungfrau, Interlaken
Located in the heart of Interlaken, the Victoria Jungfrau is one of the most luxurious venues near my home in the Swiss Alps. This grand hotel set the stage for a stunning fusion wedding, blending Indian, Muslim, and European traditions in an unforgettable celebration. Guests enjoyed majestic views of the Jungfrau mountains while the timeless elegance of the hotel created a regal and welcoming atmosphere.
As one of Switzerland’s premier luxury wedding venues, the Victoria Jungfrau offers exceptional service, refined interiors, and a breathtaking alpine backdrop, making it the perfect choice for couples looking to celebrate in style.

A winter wedding with the snow-capped Jungfrau as a backdrop?
A celebration in the heritage-protected Salon Napoléon under the historic Murano chandelier, one of the largest in Europe?
Or maybe a summer wedding featuring hundreds of lanterns in the garden?
You also don’t have to worry about anything as their experienced team of event planners is there for you and will handle everything from start to finish.
The Beau-Rivage Palace, Lausanne
The thing about Switzerland that I love is the huge offer on luxury venues for your wedding and event. And the Beau-Rivage Palace, Lausanne is among that awesome selection.
With this venue you have the beauty of choosing to get married on ‘land or water’ … let me explain…
The wedding ceremony itself can be held in the four hectare park, and drinks can be served outside, too, allowing everyone to enjoy the romantic view of Lake Geneva and the Alps in the background. But also for every guest, Le Montreux, the hotel’s Belle-Époque paddle steamer, is also available as a quaint drinks venue or even for the civil ceremony, which is recognised by the Lausanne registry office.

The Swiss town of Interlaken (literally translated as ‘between two lakes’) is nestled between Thunersee and Brienzersee. There are two very glamorous wedding venues at each end of the town. The Lindner Grand Hotel Beau Rivage and the stunning Victoria-Jungfrau Grand Hotel.
Combining cities and lakes is something the Swiss do so well.
The Schwizerhof Hotel & Spa, Bern
And finally but by no means least – The Schweizerhof Hotel & Spa in Bern. While I have yet to film a wedding at this beautiful city hotel, I did have the honour of filming Ian and Brandon’s ‘First Look’ here before they got married.
I absolutely love Bern – it is my favorite city in the world, let alone Switzerland.

In terms of the The Schweizerhof Hotel & Spa … well it’s an out of this world city wedding venue and by sharing your vows on its rooftop terrace you can enjoy the backdrop of the Swiss Alps in the distance … just perfect.
Hidden Gems & Secluded Escapes: Switzerland’s Most Intimate Venues
For couples looking for privacy and charm, Switzerland offers hidden gems that feel like their very own paradise.
Hotel Vitznauerhof, Lake Lucerne & Mannlichen, Wengen
Trang and Kevin celebrated their third wedding at the stunning Hotel Vitznauerhof on the shores of Lake Lucerne, following ceremonies in Vietnam and the UK. The couple chose this location to honour Kevin’s Swiss heritage and share the beauty of Switzerland with their international guests. With its serene lakeside setting and breathtaking mountain views, the venue was the perfect blend of charm and tradition.
The day before the wedding, they visited Wengen, where I live, for a photo shoot and took a cable car ride to Männlichen to capture the stunning mountain scenery. Returning to Vitznau, they enjoyed a sunset by the lake before their big day. On the wedding day, a beautiful humanist ceremony unfolded under sunny skies, with Lake Lucerne’s tranquil backdrop making their celebration unforgettable.

The Sertig Valley, Davos
Some weddings that I have covered I’m just not so sure if it’s a town or wedding in nature because it’s all thrown in. But just because I love this wedding and this story I want to share it with you…

It’s a modern love story of a bride from Texas following in the footsteps of her grandmother, who married her true love in a beautiful church just outside Davos, in Switzerland in 1946.
A true love story is the film of Brittany and Ryan’s intimate wedding in the Sertig Valley just outside Davos.
Lake Blausee, Jungfrau Region
Of course, if you’re having a smaller, more intimate wedding or even an elopement then I have the perfect lake for you. Lake Blausee is a small but absolutely beautiful turquoise blue lake, surrounded by forests in the Bernese Oberland.
Jess and Cory brought their family and close friends over from Australia and stayed in the beautiful village of Lauterbrunnen, (in the valley below Wengen).

As it’s quite a busy tourist spot in the summer, it’s a good idea to work with wedding vendors who know the area well to choose where to set up for a small ceremony without being disturbed by onlookers. It is definitely not a ‘private’ venue but if you don’t mind that, then it’s really worth it.
So, the mountains are also perfect for proposals, elopements, and adventure weddings.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of filming several elopements and proposals in the Jungfrau Region, from intimate moments with the Jungfrau as a backdrop to breathtaking settings on Männlichen, in the shadow of the north face of the Eiger.
One particularly unforgettable elopement was Kat and Dmetrey’s, where they exchanged vows on the Petersgrat Glacier before continuing their adventure in the Lauterbrunnen Valley.
See the behind-the-scenes story of their adventure elopement here.
Elopement on Lake Oeshinensee
Another beautiful elopement story I had the privilege of capturing was that of Mike and Michelle. They spent a peaceful night at Lake Blausee, waking up to the stillness of the morning for an intimate First Look by the water—before any visitors arrived.

From there, we made our way to the breathtaking Lake Oeschinensee, where they exchanged private vows in a secluded spot, surrounded by the dramatic Swiss Alps. Their adventure continued in Lauterbrunnen, embracing the stunning landscapes that made their day truly unforgettable.
Elopements in Switzerland are breathtakingly beautiful, but they also come with their own set of challenges – unpredictable weather, busy tourist spots, and the reality behind those “perfect” Instagram moments. If you’re dreaming of an intimate Swiss elopement, it’s important to know what to expect. I’ve shared my honest insights and expert advice on navigating the reality of eloping in Switzerland in this blog:
